Part-time & Temp Jobs
Plus Personal Stuff
Although I probably will never run for office again...
I will remain politically active as long as American politics cries for reform...
doing what I can to remove corporate control of Washington and restore it to the people.
In that vein, I will lobby and join rallies in support of protecting our rights guaranteed by the U.S. Consitution. Part of that will be efforts to force the media to adhere to the ethical principles and public service oriented goals that were once our guide when I began my career in journalism in the 1960's.
That (renewed) activism began several years ago in support of my old college pal, Steve Wilson and his wife Jane Akre. They were fired from the Fox-TV owned station in Tampa, WTVT-TV/13, after a confrontation with management over a series of reports dealing with recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH.) Monsanto, the maker of the chemical, threatened Steve and Jane's employer with "dire consequences" unless references to documented health threats from BGH were removed from their series of reports.
The company caved and ordered the investigative team to do the unthinkable and lie. They refused and were fired. The protracted legal battle (continuing now in appellate court) was chronicled on their website, which I designed and maintain: foxBGHsuit.com.
Other web projects include:
Over the years, I have done a variety of temporary, freelance, and volunteer projects. Among those was a short stint as a temp writer at KRON-TV/4 in San Francisco, and various fund raisers for heart and veterans organizations. I also enjoy (IU) alumni activities, serving as an (unpaid) consultant (on call 24/7) to friends in the media, and my cardiac rehab routine with daily swims and bike riding.
While I have very strong beliefs in god and am deeply spiritual, I threw away my religious rudder decades ago. As such, I do not preach or participate in church related activities (except civic service missions such as those of the Salvation Army.) I do not criticize those who do take part in worship services. Nor do I challenge those who believe differently than I or do not believe at all.
